What To Know Before You Start

    Why prepare before pregnancy?

    • A steady routine of movement, sleep and calm is easier to build before pregnancy.
    • A check-up can review medicines, vaccinations and conditions such as thyroid problems.
    • Healthy habits can carry into pregnancy.
    • None of this guarantees conception.

Preconception yoga is for planning ahead, fertility yoga is for women actively trying to conceive or facing fertility concerns, and pregnancy yoga is for after a positive test. Once you are pregnant, move to pregnancy-safe prenatal classes.

Yoga can support relaxation and healthy routines, but it cannot guarantee conception. Fertility depends on many medical factors.

There is no fixed time. Many women start a few months before trying so that habits become steady, and it is fine to start whenever you are ready, once your doctor agrees.

Sessions combine gentle movement for strength and mobility, breathing and relaxation, with simple routines to practise at home, adapted to your energy and comfort.

A preconception check-up with your gynaecologist is usually advised to review your health, medicines, vaccinations, thyroid or other conditions, and whether you should take folic acid. Do not stop any medicine without medical advice.

Very intense or exhausting practice is not suitable for everyone, and any movement that hurts is modified. If you think you may be pregnant, tell your instructor and switch to pregnancy-safe classes after a positive test, because some movements change.

See a doctor if you have very irregular or absent periods, severe period pain, heavy bleeding, known conditions such as PCOS or thyroid disease, or if you have been trying to conceive for 12 months (6 months if you are 35 or older).
