    Sore breasts are common in women as they undergo through the menstrual cycle every month. However, it is much more common in pregnancy. One of the first signs of pregnancy is sore breasts and nipples. You might notice your breasts becoming achy and swollen, and your nipples hypersensitive, while you are pregnant. Hormonal duo of progesterone and estrogen deserves most of the blame for breast soreness and pain. Breast swelling and sensitivity may start between the 4th and 6th week of pregnancy and can last throughout the first trimester. 


    Although, you cannot do much to stop your surging hormones, there are several remedies which could help you in providing relief. Of course, it might interfere with your day-to-day activities, but before using any of the medications, it is suggest to see your doctor or speak with lactation consultant. Here are some of the pain-relieving options:


    1. Wear a more supportive bra: A more comfortable and supportive bra is all you need. It will give your breasts the support that you required the most. A properly fitted or more supportive bra like a full-coverage one is the best option as it will lift up the breasts and take the pressure off the area.
    2. Avoid contact: However, you will instinctively do everything to avoid allowing anything to touch your breasts. Still, some of the reminders: Adjust the seat belt, if uncomfortable, the strap that zigzags across your torso. Also, if you feel having your breasts touched during sex is uncomfortable, let your partner know.
    3. Home remedies: Reducing the intake of sodium in your diet for a temporary period may be helpful for the mom-to-be in managing breast pain. Flaxseeds, which are an excellent source of fiber, are known to reduce breast pain. You can take one tablespoon of finely ground flax seeds mixed with water, fruit juice to get the relief.


    Consult your doctor before making any dietary changes, it will help you to understand your pregnancy better. However, one can also take a lactation counseling if she faces the symptoms like breast pain and soreness.
